Launch of CoBA Country of Origin Report in Brussels

Olsberg•SPI’s impact evaluation of the EU Audiovisual Media Service Directive’s “Country of Origin” rule – written on behalf of the Commercial Broadcasters Association (CoBA) – was formally launched at the European Parliament today. The launch was hosted by German MEP Sabine Verheyen, and attended by other members of the Parliament’s Committee on Culture and Education.

The report examines the impact which the Country of Origin rule has had in supporting the availability of linear and non-linear TV services across the European content. In doing so, it demonstrates the value of the rule for European consumers, particularly for those in smaller member states where it allows a range of channels to be available, which may not be viable if licenced on a country-by-country basis.

SPI’s evaluation of the Country of Origin rule is available here.
